SWINE FLU :

Swine flu kills nearly one hundred in Mexico and infects across borders.Swine flu is a type A influenza virus that causes respiratory illness in pigs.Whole herds are known to fall ill with the virus but rarely have pigs died on account of the infection.
It sometimes affects humans who have close contact with pigs. The H1N1 virus is a genetic mix of swine, human and avian flu strains, a dangerous combination that could elude traditional drug treatments.

WHY IS IT DANGEROUS ?

Because the new virus, while resembling a swine H1N1 virus, contains avian flu and human flu sequences as well.Has caused several deaths in Mexico.

DO U NEED TO BE WORRIED ?

There are no suspected cases in India till now.But the government has ordered screening of all passengers arriving from Mexico and US.

HOW CAN SOMEONE WITH SWINE FLU INFECT OTHERS ?

People with the flu can infect others 1 day before symtoms appear and up to 7 or more days after becoming sick.
